Deep Tissue Massage in Albany Creek, Eatons Hill & McDowall

What is deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage is a remedial massage technique that focuses on mobilising the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue.

Deep tissue massage is particularly beneficial for chronically tense and contracted muscle areas such as the neck, lower back and shoulders.

Deep tissue massage techniques typically involve slower movement with deeper pressure concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

How does deep tissue massage work?

Deep Tissue Massage Eatons Hill

Chronic muscle tension and injury is usually associated with adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

Adhesions can entrap delicate sensory nerve endings, block circulation and cause pain, limited movement and inflammation.

Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. In order to achieve this, your massage therapist will apply direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. Usually, following a session of deep tissue massage, you will notice an improved range of motion.

Will it hurt?

Due to the nature of the massage, at certain points during the massage, most people find there is usually some discomfort and pain.

It is important to provide feedback to your massage therapist during your deep tissue massage if the pain you may experience is outside your comfort range.

There is usually some stiffness or pain following a deep tissue massage, however this will usually subside within a day or so. Often times, the application of ice following a deep tissue massage may help to reduce discomfort.

Suitable conditions

Unlike classic massage therapy, which is used for relaxation and general aches and pains, deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as:

* Chronic pain
* Chronic muscle stiffness
* Limited mobility
* Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury)
* Repetitive strain injury
* Poor Postural
* Ostearthritis pain
* Fibromyalgia
* Muscle tension or spasm

What can I expect during my visit?

As part of your deep tissue massage, your therapists may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms. You may also be asked to breathe deeply as the massage therapist works on certain tense areas.

We strongly advise all patients to drink plenty of water following a deep tissue massage to aid in the flushing of toxins and metabolic waste from the tissues.
